More than 70,000 cigarettes seized and a 54 year old man arrested : the police Department of the City of Quebec (SPVQ) was a crackdown, this week, in the fight contraband tobacco.
After having received information about the alleged smuggler of tobacco, the investigators of the project “Lead” of the SPVQ were arrested Tuesday, two individuals in a vehicle with Limoilou. One of the occupants of the vehicle had no connection with the alleged offence.
The fifty-year-old in the region of Bellechasse was “operating on the territory of the city of Quebec in relation to contraband tobacco,” said Melissa Cliche, spokesman for the SPVQ.
In addition to the 70 000 contraband cigarettes, police seized a list of accounts.
The suspect could face charges under the Act relating to the tobacco tax.
The project team Lead has the mandate to address, in collaboration with Revenu Québec, the fight against smuggling of tobacco in the capital.
