The year 2018 has been marked by natural disasters, human tragedies and events that have reacted to the Quebec. Here is a list of the event which attracted most attention in the last year.

Disappearance of the small Ariel

The story of the little Ariel Jeffrey Kouakou has touched the hearts of thousands of Quebecers. The 10-year-old vanished on 12 march between the home and the residence of a friend. After several days of research and investigation, the Montreal police has estimated that the most plausible hypothesis was that the young man has drowned in the rivière des Prairies. Nearly 10 months later, the family still clings to hope to find Ariel alive.

Destructive tornado

The date of September 21 will remain etched forever in the memory of hundreds of residents of the Outaouais region, struck by a destructive tornado. In total, sixty buildings were heavily damaged, mainly in the sector of Mont-Blue, Gatineau. By some miracle, no one lost life. More than 2,100 people have been taken care of by the Red Cross since the events.

Death of Athena Gervais

The death of Athena Gervais at the beginning of the month of march, in Laval, has provoked an important debate about sugar-sweetened beverages with high alcohol content. The 14-year-old has lost his life behind his high school after drinking a few cans of 568 ml of FCKDUP, an alcoholic beverage very sweet of 11.9 % alcohol. In a state of intoxication, Athena Gervais would have hit my head falling down in the water of a ditch. His body was found a few hours later. Since his death, several drinks, sweet alcoholic beverages popular with youth, were removed from shelves.

Course of swimming tragic

On February 15, a student of 14 years of the secondary school Père-Marquette in Montreal is found lifeless at the bottom of the pool after a swimming lesson. It has been determined that Blessing Moukoko, who could not swim, had been 38 long minutes at the bottom of the water before the officials do not realize that it was there. In mid-December, the family of the victim has announced that it sued the City of Montréal and the Commission scolaire de Montréal for an amount of $1.5 million.

Sumptuous wedding

The wedding of the year in Quebec was undoubtedly that of a member in good standing of the Hells Angels, Martin Robert, who has united his destiny to Annie Arbic, the daughter of a narcotrafiquante well-known of Kanesatake. The lavish wedding celebrated in downtown Montreal, has hosted big names of organized crime, such as Salvatore Cazzetta, Salvatore Brunetti and Mario Brouillette. A Accurso dies in an accident

In the night of 26 October, the eldest son of the construction entrepreneur Tony Accurso has died in a violent exit from the road to Sainte-Marguerite-du-Lac-Masson in the Laurentians. James “Jimmy” Accurso was a passenger of a luxury Tesla conducted by his good friend Sébastien Varin, general manager of the Manoir Saint-Sauveur. The latter would have missed a curve on route 370, and his car would have ended his race against trees. James Accurso, 43 years old, would have died on the spot. Following the accident, Sébastien Varin was arrested for driving with impaired abilities.

Helicopter crash fatal

In the evening of February 1st, a terrible helicopter crash has claimed the lives of three people in Drummondville, in the Centre-du-Québec. The driver, Jean-Claude Mailhot, 57 years, her daughter Janie Mailhot, 32 years old, and the girlfriend of the latter, Nathalie Desrosiers, 42 years, are the three victims of this tragedy. The trio was gone from the Beauce and headed for the Lanaudière region, where it is found in an area of strong perturbations. The three victims died on the spot during the crash. Nearly a year after the tragedy, the Office of the transportation safety board of Canada has not yet disclosed the findings of its investigation report.

Shots in full palace

On 31 January, Steven Bertrand was waiting for his award at the palace of justice in Maniwaki, where he has been involved in an altercation with a special constable. At a certain moment, the young man 18 years old would have grabbed the stick telescoping of the constable before hitting him a few times. To defend themselves, the special constable would have drawn his firearm and shot the suspect, hitting in the face. The young man has survived his injuries. The scene was filmed by a witness and was widely distributed on social networks.
