Facebook shut down the page of the Latvian SS Legion

The administration of Facebook closed the page dedicated to the participants of the Latvian volunteer SS Legion. The group, which was signed by 3,300 people, made three years ago. There were published relevant records, archival materials and photos.

As told Latvian newspaper Delfi, one of the admins of the group Maris Urchins, administrators were able to save part of the publications and already submitted a complaint with the administration of Facebook, but no answer was received.

According to him, the goal was “to popularize the theme of the Legion in Latvia”. “To show that they were no criminals and fascists,” says Urchins and adds: “it is a Pity that many couldn’t appreciate and was closed group”.

Latvian SS Legion was created by the command of Nazi Germany during the Second world war in occupied Latvia two Grenadier divisions.

SS (same as the SD, the Gestapo and the National socialist German party) in the course of the Nuremberg trials were considered criminal organizations.

A crime against humanity was recognized and the establishment of concentration camps, which were organized, including SS. However, every year Riga hosts a procession of the Latvian Legion “Waffen SS” and their supporters, reminds RIA Novosti.

Earlier, Russian foreign Ministry Commissioner for human rights, democracy and rule of law Konstantin Dolgov said that the permission of the authorities of Latvia marches of SS veterans is contrary to international law and the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal.
