A new milestone has been reached in the future relocation of the youth theatre The Big Beaks. It has unveiled the first images of their new infrastructure, which will, in the fall of 2021, in The Barracks of Ex Machina and Robert Lepage.
The project of the firms, SBTA, Inc. and Delort & Brochu, who joined forces, has been retained. Four architectural firms had been selected as finalists.

“Our goal was to inspire a sense of home and comfort in those who will inhabit the place and that the project fits into the urban landscape and enrich it,” said Dino Barbarese, associate at SBTA, Inc., on Thursday, during a press conference.
It was important to retain and enhance the heritage elements of this fire station built in 1912, and to keep an important place for the tower to the bowels of this building, which is the identity of the building.

A great step
The total cost of the transformation is $ 18.9 million. The government of Québec contributes with an amount of $ 11.5 million and the City of Quebec, with 1.8 million.
A request for financial assistance has been made to the government of Canada, and a fundraising campaign will be implemented soon.

Construction is expected to begin next winter and the official opening is scheduled for fall 2021. The team of the Big Beaks could live in The Barracks any time, to make the establishment, after the move of Ex Machina to the Diamond, at the end of the summer 2019.
